What is a trunk show?

Justin Alexander Signature 9894Tips and Tricks for navigating a bridal trunk show!

With summer weddings fast approaching, January through March becomes our busiest time here at Charlotte’s Weddings & More!  With busy season also come a lot of fun events like bridal shows, and most excitingly— trunk shows!  You’ve probably seen the words “trunk show” and wondered what exactly that means, so read on to be in the know about these awesome weekend events!

Each collection that a designer produces is chock full of different designs.  As much as we would love to house every piece from each collection in our store, we just can’t quite fit all the inventory!  That means that we have to pick and choose what gowns we want to sample in store from each collection to showcase to our brides.  A trunk show event allows brides to see a more complete collection in person, giving you the chance to see all that a designer has to offer rather than just the select pieces we carry in store year round.

Trunk shows are a great opportunity to expand your search when you have narrowed down to a designer you like, or found a look that really excites you!  Here are some tips to help make the most of your trunk show shopping.

  1. Begin by browsing the designer websites of those hosting trunk shows.  Learn about their design style and whether or not they fall into your budget.  You can use our website’s pricing guideline to give you a sense of which designer’s trunk show would be best for you to attend!
  2. Once you have found a designer whose style and price point you love, set up your appointment!  Trunk show weekends run Friday – Sunday and they book FAST.  Don’t wait to get your private consultation on the books.
  3. Bring a few people whom you trust to the appointment to help you navigate your feelings about different gowns – too many opinions can get confusing and busy trunk show weekends can fill the store quickly, so keep that in mind when assembling your entourage. We want you to have a fun and relaxing experience at our store!
  4. Be prepared to say yes to the dress during a trunk show event!  We often host trunk show specials, such as discounts on bridal purchases and more, so you won’t want to miss out on the chance to take advantage of those deals.

Shopping at a trunk show is a great way to see the designer’s collections as a whole, as well as maybe even see exclusive new pieces!  Better yet, trunk shows aren’t just for wedding gowns!  If you have already said yes to the dress, then you can visit us for one of our numerous accessories trunk shows coming up.

Now that you’ve learned a little more about the trunk show shopping experience, do you feel ready to jump in?  Take a look at our upcoming trunk shows for this season.

Please keep in mind that the standard ordering time for a wedding gown is 4-6 months, with alterations taking anywhere from 6-8 weeks for completion.  When attending a trunk show, it is best to have that trunk show weekend be around 8-10 months prior to your wedding day to ensure enough time for delivery and alterations!  However, if there is a closer wear date, we can always help you with rush order options, if applicable.
