Ever heard of a Weddingmoon? Neither had we, until Shawneen Gonzalez and new husband, Max, came into our store to find the perfect dress for their surprise honeymoon/wedding combo elopement!
“I had no idea exactly what type of dress I was going to end up with so was totally open to trying lots of fun stuff on. We did let our consultant know that our wedding was going to be sooner rather than later as we were planning our weddingmoon (as we called it – combo wedding and honeymoon in one) elopement just a few months later. She brought a ton of fun examples and we were laughing the entire time. The dress shopping was a little different also as it was just my fiancé (now husband) and me. He wasn’t too helpful as he thought I looked beautiful in every dress and was just excited to see me in a wedding dress.”
Shawneen found the perfect Essense of Australia dress for her big day with the help of her consultant, Jennifer. The perfect dress to travel all the way around the world with!
The pair started off their “Weddingmoon” with a jaunt up to Vancouver, BC where they were able to catch a nonstop flight to London. A quick day trip to Paris, and then they were off to Dubai as a final stop before they made it to the Maldives, the location for their nuptials!
“In order to get to our resort (in the Maldives) we had to take a seaplane which was cool as neither of us had ever done that before! It was also an awesome way to see all the different islands and the Indian Ocean.”
The wedding was planned for the middle of their stay so they wouldn’t feel rushed. The night before the wedding the couple experienced a once in a lifetime dinner at an under the sea restaurant!
“It was so cool to be eating in the coral and watching the fish and sharks swim around us while we dined.”
The day of their wedding was a completely relaxed and perfect day! The resort took care of almost all of the planning, leaving the couple stress free leading up to their nuptials.
“The entire day was so relaxing. We started with a couple’s massage and then just had a blast with photos and the ceremony followed by a dinner on the beach for just the two of us. During the ceremony it was so windy that as we were walking back down the aisle, the petals they threw were floating around us like bubbles. It was magical. Max also managed to drop me during our photos which had us in a laughing fit for quite some time.”
After their wedding day, the couple continued their ‘round the world journey by heading to Thailand, where they spent a few days relaxing at a resort in Phuket. After that they hit up Japan with a stop in Tokyo and some time spent at Tokyo Disneyland! Finally, the couple stopped in Hawaii on their way home to Portland as a way to break up the last leg of their flight.
“It was definitely interesting carrying the dress around the world and thankfully all the airlines were very accommodating when we carried it on the flights”
After they returned home to Portland, the pair decided they weren’t quite done with the dress yet! They coordinated a photoshoot back home as one last way to commemorate their marriage and the amazing trip they’d just completed! Initially they had planned to take photos in the Gorge, but ended up down in Silver Falls for some final wedding photos featuring the Pacific Northwest!
“When we got back we weren’t quite done with it just yet and set up photos with Erica Ann Photography so we could have more fun photos of us all dressed up around this area”
Shawneen and Max found the perfect way to combine their love of travel, and their love of each other with their Weddingmoon! Congratulations to the happy couple, we’re so glad to have been a part of your amazing wedding experience!
