Rebecca and Connor’s love story started when the pair were in high school. They had grown up in the same neighborhood since they were toddlers, but it took until they were 16 to finally meet in person.
“Connor and I were high school sweethearts. We first caught each other’s eye walking home from school when he would be out shooting hoops and I would walk by.”
One afternoon, Rebecca was out selling raffle tickets in her neighborhood for a church fundraiser when she decided to stop by Connor’s house.
“He ended up buying two raffle tickets to win a stay at a Sunriver Cabin, and the rest is history. He did not win the raffle, but he ended up winning my heart. We were friends for a year and then dated for six more while we finished high school, graduated from college, and started work as a registered nurse and engineer. Our wedding day was our six-year anniversary, and the best way to celebrate for sure.”
Rebecca and Connor both have a love for the snow, so when it came time for Connor to pop the question it was only right that they would be enjoying the snow together.
“In March of 2017, we were spending our spring break in Sunriver and went snowboarding at Mt. Bachelor – a favorite spot of ours. It was a winter wonderland of snowy weather and fresh powder galore!”
On March 27th, they spent the day snowboarding and enjoying the gorgeous day. When it finally came time for them to take their final run the pair took to Cliffhanger for one last jaunt down the mountain.
“We made our way down Cliffhanger, which had open, rolling hills and no one else in sight. About halfway down, we stopped to take in the beautiful view and enjoy the sunshine that had just peaked through the clouds. It was then that
I noticed Connor starting to say tons of sweet words to me and I thought he might be proposing. I excitedly asked, ‘Is this really happening right now?’, took off my board and sat in his lap. Connor then went on to tell me how much he loved me and that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me. When Connor asked me to marry him, I said YES!”
Sunriver and snow were integral parts of Rebecca and Connor’s love story, so naturally when it came time to choose the wedding venue The Great Hall at Sunriver Resort was a no-brainer.
“I was not overly intimated by the planning process at first, but as time went on the feat grew bigger and bigger.”
With a guest count of over 200 people, the details to coordinate started to seem more daunting than Rebecca had originally anticipated.
“We were blessed though to have an incredible vendor team who had experience at our venue and made the day go smoothly without a hitch. They were all amazingly talented at their professions, as well as friendly, helpful and just great people. That made all the difference in the world.”
Choosing Sunriver Resort as their wedding venue also alleviated the stress of having to embellish the space for their celebration.
“The venue barely needed to be dressed up! Between my mother, sister and myself we planned our wedding and it was better than our dreams.”
Of course, there were moments where Rebecca found herself feeling a little overwhelmed and there were some financial stressors during the planning process, but Rebecca and Connor had their eyes set on the true importance of the day from the start.
“At the end of the day we focused on the fact that we were finally getting married and that was enough to put us back on cloud 9. All we could do was our best, and our best proved to be more than enough. It was perfect.”
Rebecca found her dream dress with the help of her consultant, Stephanie!
“Finding my wedding dress at Charlotte’s was an amazing experience from the moment I walked in. We were greeted with a warm welcome and introduced to Stephanie, the best in the biz. She gifted us a bottle of champagne and listened intently as I told her the vision for our wedding day.”
Rebecca shared with Stephanie the ins and outs of what she envisioned her wedding day to look like, and with that knowledge went out into the shop to search for the perfect dress for Rebecca’s dreams.
“After three rounds of trying on dresses and listening to all of my feedback to better narrow down the search, she found “the one.” I knew I loved it the moment I tried it on, and the photographs prove it. I was beaming in this beautiful gown.”
When it came down to her final decision Rebecca was stuck between her dress and another more fitted option. Stephanie helped her to really visualize the bride she wanted to be on her wedding day which made the decision that much easier.
“Stephanie was the real MVP. She told me that both dresses looked amazing, but asked: ‘When you picture your wedding day, do you see yourself in a sexy, fitted gown, or a princess gown?’ It was like she had read my mind. I love Disney Princesses and definitely wanted to waltz to ‘Tale as Old As Time’ with my princess dress. The decision was easy after that, and I couldn’t be happier or more in love with my wedding dress.”
A Sunriver wedding meant travel for Rebecca, Connor and their families. This allowed them to extend the festivities from beyond just a wedding day. Instead they got to spend ample time with the people that they loved.
“My favorite part of my wedding was being surround by all of our wonderful family and friends. We were blown away by the love, encouragement and celebration we experienced before, on, and after our wedding.”
The couple arrived early to prepare for the big day, as well as made time to spend with their loved ones following the celebration.
“We stayed for about a week to prepare, have the wedding, and then enjoy some time with all of our favorite people for a few days afterwards. It was a week defined by boundless love and priceless memories. I wouldn’t change a thing.”
Another favorite from Rebecca and Connor’s wedding was their dance party during the reception. Rebecca asked all her guests to RSVP with the one song that would get them up and dancing at their wedding.
“Ask everyone! Then give the list to your DJ and ask him to play those songs during your dance party. We did this and had a very lively, full floor dance party for hours!”
The DJ took the requested songs and made them into the perfect mix based on the mood of the dance floor and the whole reception had a blast dancing to personal favorites and a wide variety of music.
“For a multigenerational guest list of 220 people, we got the best of the best wedding songs from each era. My favorite part now is having that playlist and listening to it in the car, at work, or at home whenever I want to go back in time. I remember who requested each song and the moments we shared on that dance floor. I would definitely recommend doing this for any wedding!”
