You know that scene in Love Actually when Andrew Lincoln’s character professes his love to Kiera Knightley’s character in one of the most romantic ways in movie history? Real Charlotte’s Bride Jen Maust was lucky enough to live that out in real life when Dom proposed to her on Christmas Eve.
“He reenacted that scene in Love Actually, except my husband actually got the girl! He knew that was one of my favorite movies and he proposed on Christmas Eve, so it was only fitting!”
This perfect proposal kicked off a whirlwind engagement, that lead up to a beautiful and happy wedding day.
“My favorite part of our wedding day was seeing all the smiles. The smile on Dom’s face when saying our “I do’s”, the smile on my family and friends faces when I walked down the aisle, and the smiles and laughter on everyone’s face when my sweet husband serenaded me on the dance floor. There were just so many fun moments and it was clear that everyone was just happy to be there.”
In the summer leading up to her big day, Jen bought her business: Barclay Events. Planning a wedding while running a new business in a daunting task, so Jen hired a wedding planner to help with the details and take away some of the stress.
“If I have advice for anyone, it’s to hire a wedding planner! I could not have done it without my planner. She worked so closely with me and took care of all the details. With a new business, I was pre-occupied, so I really didn’t have much time to dedicate to details.”
Jen came into Charlotte’s with no ideas for the style of dress she wanted. She had some thoughts on what she really didn’t picture herself in, but beyond that Jen was really open to trying on gowns.
“Working with Charlotte’s was so relaxing and fun. Jennifer was amazing. She really listened to what I didn’t want to see on my dress. It was clear that she has a lot of experience (and good taste) because she suggested that I try on a dress that I didn’t think would look good on my body shape. The moment I tried it on though, I wanted it to be my wedding dress.”
Jen was gorgeous in her dress from Allure Bridals. With a few custom changes, the dress went from beautiful to absolutely spectacular. “Don’t be afraid to modify something to fits your needs, but make sure you have a professional seamstress to make that happen! I set an appointment with Andrea with August Veils when I bought my dress, so when it came in (several months later), she was all ready to make the changes needed and I ended up with a dress that I felt so good in and it fit me perfectly.”
Trying on wedding dresses can be daunting, especially if you don’t really know what to expect or are unsure of what you want. Jen shares some advice for brides feeling a little intimidated by the process:
“Try on all styles of dresses. Don’t just assume a style will not work for you and just be open to trying on everything! I ended up with a dress I would never have dreamed would look good on me, and with a little help from my seamstress it became my perfect dress.”
