Wedding Gown Trends for 2014

low backI have noticed a lot of brides coming to their appointments with specific requests for their dress lately. Since it’s just about that time of year again I thought I would look up the trends for the upcoming 2014 season. This is what I found:

One trend I know everyone is going crazy for right now is the 1920′s Great Gatsby look. Ever since the movie came out we have been getting lots of requests for beaded sheath dresses. Some want a very low, sexy back (which is another popular trend itself). Beaded cap-sleeves are another characteristic of this trend, and capsleeves have been “in” for a few seasons now. One great thing about the 1920′s look is that you can make it work at almost any venue!

Illusion necklines are a popular request right now as well.  A nice lace or sheer illusion top can totally change the look of a dress.  The sweetheart neckline is the most popular, but this is a way to switch it up a little.  It gives a really feminine and unique detail without being too overwhelming, and it’s flattering on almost everyone!  This trend is great for the bride who wants a modern/vintage look.

Peplum dresses are definitely making a come back! Whether it’s a mermaid dress with the dramatic peplumpeplum or a ball gown that has a shorter layer on top to give the illusion of a peplum, this look is totally modern and on trend. You’ll be seeing more of them in the upcoming Spring lines and if you’re looking for something that’s totally unique, the peplum might be the perfect look for you!

Almost every bride wants a lace wedding gown.  I love the uniqueness and edgy feel of metallic lace. It give the illusion of beaded lace without over-the-top sparkle, and it really makes the lace stand out by giving it some dimension.

This next trend may surprise you… a lot of brides lately have been asking for gowns with long sleeves!  Whether they’re sheer lace or billow-y chiffon, full-length sleeves are making a come back!  If you’re looking for a vintage-inspired gown and aren’t afraid to go all the way, this trend is for you!  There’s nothing more classic or feminine than a wedding gown with long sleeves. :)

long sleevesThe last, most noteworthy trend in the upcoming seasons is the return of pearls! Rather than just having a dress covered in crystals you will be seeing a lot of pearl accents in gowns with beaded detailing. This trend also goes well with the 1920′s theme I talked about above. The best thing about pearls is that they’re so versatile: you can dress them up or down, they can feel totally modern or totally vintage – you could incorporate some of your grandmother’s actual vintage jewelry!

Don’t be afraid to go outside of your comfort zone when trying these bridal  trends.  You might find that they totally capture the theme or overall look you’re going for, not to mention your own personal style!  Tell your bridal consultant what you’re looking for in your gown and she’ll incorporate these trends and find the one that’s perfect for you!
