This month has been an interesting one for me. About two weeks ago I found out that I’m “sensitive” (or allergic) to wheat, gluten, eggs and dairy. WHAT?! That’s exactly how I felt…how am I supposed to eat anything? Everything seems to have one of those four elements in it…
One of the huge benefits about living in Portland is that our city is very aware of allergens and the specials needs of people’s diets. Whether specific allergies, eating vegetarian or vegan, Portland chefs and bakers are up to the challenge. Naturally, I love sweets, and specifically baked goods, which always have eggs, milk and flour in them. While despairing over this fact and researching how to get around it, it crossed my mind that brides who had similar issues would need cake and cupcake option that fit the bill.
After a simple Google search (gluten-free wedding cakes, Portland) I found numerous bakeries in the area that are serving up delicious treats, including wedding cakes, that meet any allergy or dietary standard. AND, they’re delicious! Just ask around, or go have a taste test yourself! Two that popped up first were Sweetpea Baking Company and Piece of Cake Bakery. I felt relieved that I would still be able to have some amazing desserts with these new restrictions and all you brides out there dealing with similar issues can have amazing wedding cakes!
