I know what you’re thinking, “What the heck is Wedding Insurance!?” YES, it is a real thing. So, now that the cat is out of the bag, maybe you should ask yourself, “Do I need it?”
First, let’s talk about the uncontrollable that can happen on your big day. Let;s take a stroll down “What If” Lane!
- What if: Your limo driver doesn’t show up and you have to find another driver the morning of your wedding. How much will that cost? Who do I call?
- What if: your reception space burned down, flooded, didn’t exist, went out of business? What happens with your deposit? Your invitations? How are you going to find another space, in time?
These are all such horrific things that could happen. No to mention the extra financial burden you are faced with! Wedding Insurance doesn’t sound so weird after all, does it?
A basic insurance policy that covers loss of photos, videos, attire, presents, rings, and deposits usually costs anywhere from $150 to $600, depending on the amount of coverage you want. This is just like any other insurance policy.
General liability insurance can cover up to $1,000,000 for accidents that can occur at a wedding for around $180.00. At this point in time, you may be able to find something free.
To find out if wedding insurance is in your future ask your venue, florets, DJ, and/or transportation provider what insurance they provide for you. You can also do something as simple as asking your current insurer. You may not even have to worry about it, as your current policy may have some kind of extra clause for events, such as your wedding.
Remember: Just like anything else that is a major step in your life, do your research and ask questions!
