Ashika and Shawn first locked eyes on a rooftop in 2007. The rest is history.
“My friend Jasi was visiting from Boston, and we were both getting ready to celebrate my 21st birthday. She wanted to make sure I had some food in my stomach before we headed out, so she tried cooking me some pasta. Fortunately, she burned it all and smoked out the apartment, causing me to run to the rooftop to get some air. Which is where I met Shawn for the 1st time.”
Fast forward a few years to a birthday trip to Las Vegas to celebrate Ashika!
“We had around 20 people fly out to Vegas for my birthday. They kept showing up one after another; didn’t even confirm they were flying in. Shawn ended up renting out a private room at a Steak House called Strip, and when he got up to make a toast, he started telling everyone how we met, and how much he loved me (he does this story telling thing often, so not weird at all), but then he got down on one knee and proposed! I cried so hard I forgot to say yes! His best man had to remind me that I never even said yes or no. It was very special.”
For Ashika, planning the wedding day was pretty stress free. With the help of her friends and family a beautiful wedding was pulled together.
“I started out by finding a venue first, so that we could find a date that would work best. Then photographer, dress, DJ, photo booth rental, etc.”
Although things went smoothly for Ashika, she did have some advice to share with other brides planning their big days:
“Give yourself enough time, choose your bridal party & maid of honor wisely, have fun, don’t over plan and there is no such thing as a set-in-stone budget, also make a list of things you will need on your wedding day, you will be so busy you may forget something important.”
Lastly, gratitude for those who made the day so special is something that Ashika advises.
“Make sure you let the people who helped you the most know how much you appreciate them.”
“I loved my dress shopping experience; the girls were so patient and gave me some great feedback. They brought up some helpful tips to help choose the right dress. Never rushed or pushed me, just listened, gave honest feedback, and guided me through the entire process. Told me what next steps looked like, what I should be doing with my dress and when. I really enjoyed the experience.”
The wedding day was full of special moments but for Ashika her favorite part was simple:
“My favorite moment was listening to the speeches and just being with everyone I loved.”
Congratulations to Ashika & Shawn on a beautiful wedding day – we loved being a part of your love story!
