7 Ways for Perfect Skin on Your Big Day

skin blogWhen it comes to your wedding day you have everything planned perfectly to the last detail, including your overall beauty plan. Every bride wants perfect skin on her big day and in her photos. You don’t have to spend tons of money on expensive products to have great skin.  In fact, the best way to have flawless skins comes from great nutrition, sleep and stress reduction. By incorporating these seven tips into your daily routine at least once a month before your wedding, you will be able to spend less time in the make-up chair on your wedding day and spend more time celebrating!

1)    Hydrate:

When it comes to having beautiful skin, hydration is key. The best way to do this is to drink at least half of your body weight in ounces of water every day. For example a 140 lb woman would need a minimum of 70 ounces of water per day. Water helps remove toxins from our daily lives (food, beverages, environment, beauty products, etc.) by filtering them out as waste.

2)    Get Lots of Quality Sleep:

Sleep is another must for great skin. Wedding planning can be a stressful process for even the most organized bride. Making sure that you get 8 hours of sleep per night – especially in the two months prior to your wedding – will make a huge difference in the way your skin looks on your big day.

3)    Eat a Diet High in Fruits and Vegetables:

Fruits and dark leafy vegetables are high in antioxidants, which help protect our skin from free radicals that can lead to accelerated aging.  Antioxidants that you may have heard of include, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Beta-Carotene, and Selenium. Eating 5-7 servings daily of a variety of berries, tomatoes, oranges, sweet potatoes, apples and dark leafy greens will help give your skin a youthful glow.

4)    Exercise Daily:

Just like being properly hydrated, exercise helps move toxins out of your body. Exercising over time also improves circulation. With improved circulation comes a more even skin tone and reduced appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. Exercising five times per week will give your skin a more youthful, effortless appearance.

5)    Limit Alcohol:

There have been numerous studies about the health benefits of some alcohol when consumed in moderation. Red wine is high in bioflavonoids and other compounds that can help turn back the clock on your health. When it comes to having radiant skin on your wedding day, limit your alcohol intake to 1-2 drinks per week at least a month prior to your wedding. Your liver is responsible for processing toxins, which if not eliminated can later show up on your skin in the form of acne. Also, alcohol consumption can lead to dehydration, which can make lines and wrinkles more apparent. Alcohol intake can also disrupt your sleep cycle, leaving you feeling tired and not looking your best.

6)    Reduce Stress:

Wedding planning is stressful. Having a positive outlet for your stress is not only going to make the wedding planning process more fun for you and your fiancé but it will help you skin look amazing as well. Exercise, yoga and meditation are all great ways to stomp stress. Too much stress raises cortisol levels, which when too high can cause sleep disturbances, weight gain, sugar cravings and mood disturbances. Take time out for yourself to make sure you are enjoying your wedding planning process and in return you will be happier and have healthy looking skin.

7)    Reduce Your Sun Exposure:

Reducing sun exposure is key to youthful looking skin. Not only do the sun’s harmful rays have damaging and drying effects on your skin, they can also cause uneven skin tone and lead to more wrinkles.  Make sure that if you do tan, you do it safely by taking into consideration the neckline of your wedding dress. Tan lines will most definitely show up in your photos. If you plan on using a self-tanner, do a trial run a few months before the big day so you know exactly what to expect. You don’t want to end up orange like Anne Hathaway in Bride Wars.
